Our Mission
Parent Voices Oakland (PVO), is a parent-led grassroots organization that advocates for affordable, accessible, quality child care. PVO organizes and empowers families with the highest need to build effective campaigns toward economic and educational justice.
PVO is a Black-led organization focused on building power among Bay Area parents, particularly Black and Brown parents, to ensure they can transform the systems that impact their lives. While child care advocacy is and will continue to be a key component of PVO’s work, its primary focus is on growing a beautiful and powerful political home for impacted parents, families, and caregivers to shape a region where parenting is just and equitable, and families are cared for. As part of its work, Parent Voices Oakland has won significant victories, including the passage of Measure C, which raises $150 million annually to expand access to early education and child care for all children in the county. Moving forward, PVO will be working to implement Measure C and continue to push to center parents’ voices and power in the midst of COVID.
